HOW TO ENTER

 

Applications are to be made online through this website and must include:

  1. TITLE – Short title of project/area of work
  2. SUMMARY – Short, plain English summary of work (maximum 150 words)
  3. BENEFIT – Description of the benefit of work to Queensland (maximum 500 words)
  4. ENGAGEMENT – Description of any STEM promotion/engagement activities including both scientific and non-scientific audiences (maximum 500 words)
  5. ROLE MODEL – Description of why you are a worthy role model for girls aspiring to work in STEM, including your engagement with girls and women (maximum 500 words)
  6. SHORT CV – Summarise your career experience, noting career stage will be taken into consideration by the judging panel. Your CV will not be published online (maximum 500 words).
  7. VIDEO – An introduction to the entrant, their work and STEM promotion/engagement activities. The video must be no longer than two minutes and suitable for a general (non-scientific) audience. Judging will be based on the quality of the video content, not video production.

 

 

AM I ELIGIBLE?

 

The 2021 Queensland Women in STEM Prize is open to any person who:

 

  • identifies as a woman; and
  • works in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field including professionals, scientists, researchers or students from any company, institute, government, university, not-for-profit or educational institution; and
  • resides and undertakes STEM activities/research in Queensland; and
  • is within the early or mid-stages of their STEM career. “Early Career” is defined as fewer than five years in a STEM field. “Mid-Career” is defined as fewer than twelve years in a STEM fields
  • to be eligible for the Inclusion Award the entrant must also identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, as having a disability (as defined under the Disability Services Act 2006), or be a carer (as defined under the Carers (Recognition) Act 2008).

 

 

HOW WILL MY ENTRY BE JUDGED? 

 

All awards will be judged by a panel of experts.

 

The panel will assess entries on the following criteria:

 

  1. Well-articulated/communicated summary and video about your work in STEM
  2. Positive impact and relevance of your work to advancing Queensland
  3. Evidence of and a passion for communication and community engagement to promote awareness and understanding in your STEM field.
  4. Clear support for advancing women and girls in STEM fields.
